Accepting that, in operational strategic terms, the Persian army needed to have reestablished contact with the bulk of the Macedonian army, particularly by the approaches cited above, it will be considered whether it would have been possible for the Persians, being strategically offensive, to have been, mainly by unfavorable terrain, tactically defensive. As a result, in the operational strategy the Persian device for approaching the battle would be more expectant, reacting to Macedonian movements as needed, while retaining the tactical formation copied from the Granicus experience. In tactics, the decisive moment of the concentration of the maximum combat power - change of expectation for action - would be at the place and within the period of performance of Alexander himself.
