In this work, Nora Whitfield develops a ritual, symbolic and psychological reading of Inanna, the Queen of Heaven. The book follows the goddess from Uruk and the Eanna temple to her relationship with Ishtar, Venus, Enheduanna, Dumuzi, Ereshkigal and the descent through the Seven Gates, treating mythology as a structure for understanding authority, desire, boundaries, loss and return.
