In the far north of Finland, where the sea mixed with dense fog and the sharp winds carried echoes of mystery, there was an island hidden from the human eye.Verenkai – “The Island of Blood” was a place that legend described as being crossed by shadows and spectral light,a land of eternity, silence and impenetrable night. No navigator ventured here without fear, and those who did returned with stories of shapes moving in the darkness, with eyes shining like rubies and a chill that did not come from the northern frost. On this island stood Kartano Varjoveri, the ancient palace of the Varjotar family, built by generations of vampires. Its Gothic architecture merged with the cliffs and dense forests, the high towers preserving the memory of hundreds of years, and the huge windows, decorated with gloomy stained glass, reflected the auroral light at night. In the hidden courtyards and in the frozen gardens, wild animals gathered, providing food for the vampire family without any human being ever touching them. The Varjotar family lived far from the eyes of the world. Taisto, the stern and imposing patriarch, supervised the island with ruthless discipline;Helmi, the gentle and attentive mother, watched over balance and harmony;Eero,Mikko,Sami and Lauri, the four boys, were taught from an early age to embrace the shadows and control their instincts;Aino, the only girl, was a mixture of curiosity and innocence, the light that pierced the darkness of the house.Verenkai had not known people for generations.
